Why Trinity Rep’s Christmas Carol?
I have attended the Trinity Rep’s Christmas Carol performance every year since I discovered this Providence, RI theater in the 1990s. Every year the performance is different and unique. I can’t wait to see what they have done with this virtual event!
When we moved to Massachusetts in 2002, we continued to think of Trinity Rep as “our” theater and have attended their open captioned performances. We love the theater, the acting company, and its commitment to hearing access. The HLAA RI chapter has worked with the theater staff over the years to obtain and upgrade the assistive devices. Tina worked with the theater to secure a TDF grant in 2007 to explore open captioning. The effort was a success and the theater made a commitment to continue the captioning after the grant period. In recent years, they have expanded the number of performances that are captioned.
The pandemic has been difficult for everyone, but it has provided an opportunity to erase geographic boundaries. By Thanksgiving, Trinity reported over 80,000 viewers so far from 47 states and 10 countries. We can share this hearing accessible holiday event with everyone in HLAA!
